March's topic is Severe Weather Awareness Month. As spring is approaching, so is a change in the weather. Now is the time for you to prepare for that upcoming change. Take the time to review the weather terminology associated with spring weather.
You also should invest in an ALL Hazards NOAA Weather Radio, preferably one that has S.A.M.E. technology. These radios can be purchased at local stores and thru numerous sites on the internet. This radio will allow you to keep updated of not only current weather conditions/forecast, but also (when set to activate) an audible tone to an impending severe weather event.
Additional steps to prepare for the upcoming weather are; attend a Skywarn training class, make sure your 72 hour kit is updated, to make sure that your insurance policy is up to date, and to make sure you have a plan. This plan need to include emergency contacts, meeting points, and how to handle different emergency situations. The Department of Homeland Security has a printable emergency plan which can be downloaded here. The most important things to do are stay INFORMED AND PREPARED.
